This is a poem I wrote for and old professor of mine who was wanting to use it for class discussion. It's blank verse, dramatic monologue. It's not perfect, but tell me what you guys think:

A Hollow Shrine

The rising tide could wash away the stain
Left by your body. Did you think escape
Was probable? Hell, we've all the time here.
For now, I'll just sit and await your answer:
The tide comes slowly inward, whispering
Hints of our past. As the red color stains
The water's foam, the flow brings me upon
A realization: Death comes too swiftly
For those deserving few. Your screams were drowned
Out from the roar produced by the cold sea.
It was inspiring watching your eyes gaze
Into the gaping hole, the bloody mess
Where your intestines idly laid, inside
That filthy body, that perverted shrine.
I laughed -- the spray of blood reminded me
Of our first trip here, back in October.
The sea sprayed salty water, not unlike
The taste of blood -- that metallic extract
That rings of iron and something like V8.
Those days were sweeter, more relaxed and calm.
Sadly, your smile will never grace that face
Of yours again. That sound in the distance
Tells me that our time together is done.
They come for me, you know -- a shame the sea
Lays claim on you... I would have loved for them
To see my work, my final hollow shrine
Created out of you. Oh well, I'd best
Get ready for them. Bullets are my brush
This time, my body the paint-filled canvas.
I cock the hammer, take a bow, and stroke
The canvas with the pull of my trigger.
