Also Scott Pilgrim should've been nominated for Visuall Effects and Best Original Song. TRON could've gotten costume design too.

Damn True Grit, damn.

Got to see Black Swan this weekend.....

Surprised TRON isn't nominated for Visual Effects.

Me too, but I think it might be because it's just everybody in a green suit on a green screen with CGI added.
Meanwhile, movies like Inception played very carefully with their visual effects. Almost everything in that movie was filmed on a real set when possible, with CGI and careful imagery only occasionally making an entrance where something was just virtually impossible. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I'll be pissed if How To Train Your Dragon doesn't win Best Animation.
Conversely, I will be totally pissed if it does. The supporting characters were flat and un-endearing, and the art direction (particularly where the dragons were concerned) was outstandingly incoherent. And I want to punch in the face whoever designed Astrid. :I

If that's the case then IM2 doesn't deserve it's nomination either. I mean I love that fucking suitcase suit, but that's only visual effect that stands out. And I want Inception to win because it was the first time in a very long time where I was impressed by practical effects that didn't involve an explosion.

Pixar always wins, except for 2006. I love the shit out of How to Train Your Dragon, but Toy Story 3 was the better film.

Also, Coens should not win.

If that's true, it's a pretty shitty reason. Especially because... you know... Avatar won for special effects last year.
That mentality makes it seem like special effects are a bad thing, like, the more you use, the worse your movie is. True, there are definitely more movies that are saturated by special effects which frankly look like shit, but all you should be asking here is, "Does the movie pull it off?" And the answer is yes. Unequivocally. The fact that it's not even nominated is retarded. It would be like if Toy Story 3 wasn't nominated for Best Animated Picture.

The suits they wore did actually light up. It wasn't a green suit.

Am I the only one who thinks Mila Kunis should've been nominated? Same goes for Andrew Garfield's performance in The Social Network.

Same goes for Andrew Garfield's performance in The Social Network.

Everyone thought that was the BIGGEST snub of the nominees. And it was. Jesse Eisenberg was great, sure, but Garfield was the heart of that film.

And Pixar's never going to lose in the Animated Feature category, especially if they keep up with the quality of their films. The only reason they lost in 2001 and 2006 was because Shrek was honestly better than Monsters, Inc. (even though that film was amazing) and Happy Feet was shitton better than the crap-tastic Cars.

Yeah Andrew Garfield gave the best performance in Social Network, but Jesse Eisenberg deserves his nomination.

Which is why, depending on how Rango and Kung Fu Panda 2 turns out, PIXAR probably won't win next year.

That is a horrible reason to not nominate Christopher Nolan for Best Director. The Academy is far more jaded than I thought. Also explains why TRON: Legacy didn't get nominated for VFX

Maybe. From the trailers it seems like they may be trying to hard. I understand what they're trying to do, but I'm honestly not that interested in it and neither are a few people I've spoken to in school.
