There are 10 nominees for best picture this year... the last time there were 10 was in 1939...but I don't really think there's a comparison between film quality of 1939 and 2009...just LOOK at the nominees for that year:

Picture:
"GONE WITH THE WIND", "Dark Victory", "Goodbye, Mr. Chips", "Love Affair", "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington", "Ninotchka", "Of Mice and Men", "Stagecoach", "The Wizard of Oz", "Wuthering Heights"

As good as Avatar was, I don't think it deserves to be nominated for Best Picture or Best Director. That's just me.

I was talking about that with my brother because we both sawing it coming. Honestly, I don't think Avatar would've been as enjoyable without the excellent 3d. But again, that's just me.

Re: OSCAR NOMINEES 2010

Well I dont see why Avatar became such a great movie
It was a overused plot
but out of all the movies there I'll go with Avatar
Hurt Locker wasnt that bad either

Re: OSCAR NOMINEES 2010

I don't think that Avatar will win best picture because the plot is not stellar (didn't get nominated for screenplay), but I'll put my money on it winning a TON of technical awards.

I don't either. The plot and characters were so predictable to me. I thought the graphics were beautiful, but the plot overshadows them IMO.

Yeah. I made a sophomore in one of my classes realize that it's pretty much Pocahontas, but with aliens.

edit: And don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Avatar, I just don't think it deserves the praise it's getting.

No I totally get it. I liked it too, at least the visual parts of it, but I also agree that it's over-hyped.

Re: OSCAR NOMINEES 2010

as much as nobody likes 'avatar', it's obviously going to win because "nerds" are more poplulated than "movie critics".

face the facts; avatar will win..

and up will win as well. :3

who's the host?

Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. And if nerds factor in, they District 9 has a strong chance XD

Re: OSCAR NOMINEES 2010

I haven't seen ALL of the films, I really can't say...

Although it's interesting that the director of the Hurt Locker is James Cameron's ex-wife :p

I find that so ironic hehehe...ummm..I don't think that Avatar deserves to win Best Picture, yeah it was a good movie but it wasn't that great.
