358/2 DSi Bundle

I was just checking out the neowin forums and came upon this thread:

Apparently, a limited edition Nintendo DSi bundle will be released in Quarter 2 2009. I'm assuming it will be released when Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days is set on the street. Although, that would delay the February 2009 date that was just announced. Also this DSi will have the GBA slot, which is cool!!! It comes bundled with Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories as well. No word on weather this is coming to the U.S.A although I'm going to use positive thinking and hope that it does!

P.S I used positive thinking about Square bringing Re: COM here and it worked!!!

somehow, i doubt it. TGS just gave a release date of Febuary. i doubt they would change it that quickly.

that, and the DSi is about 13% thinner. now, i dont claim to be an expert in mathmatics, but i would wager a guess that would make it too small for a GBA cartridge. that, and why release a special version of the DSi without GBA usage when it would be better probably to just release the version with the GBA. there are just too many things that dont make sense.

i wouldnt mind if this came true, but i'm not going to hold my breath and wait.

I dont believe this. DSi has no GBA Cartrige place. So I would not take this source seriously just yet.

DSi has no GBA slot for a reason.
If there ever was such a bundle, it would be with a DSLite and not a DSi.
Point of the matter is, it isn't real.

It can only be regarded as a rumor right now. I shared the note with the blogger at FF&KH Online and she confirmed that what the letter does indeed mention a KH 358/2 and Chain of Memories bundle. HOWEVER. The authenticity of the letter is what is in question. Notice they referred to Kingdom Hearts 358/2, not 358/2 Days. When it comes down to it, it's only text on paper. Unless an official source mentions it, this is a very suspicious rumor.

I agree with all of you, I'm a very skeptical myself of the supposed bundle! However, I summited the link to QJ.NET - QuickJump Home - Nintendo DS News - QJ.NET and DS Fanboy Both are very highly respected video game blogs! dsfanboy shared khinsider view that it is very suspicious that it would have a GBA slot, but felt the bundle of a DSi and 358/2 Days was highly possible... while ds.qj.net however had the opposite view and did agree it was a rumor, but felt that it was more confirmed then not:

"Wait, what? I thought the GBA slot was taken out of the DSi?" Yep, my initial reaction exactly. Could this GBA-capable DSi be for real? And if so, why are they bundling Chain of Memories with it? Just because its from the same series? May be... however, it could also hint at something even more profound.

Remember how, in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, you can insert a GBA cartridge of Aria of Sorrow and get the Rare Ring? Maybe Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days will have that same sort of function with Chain of Memories in the GBA slot?"

Thanks for sharing the extra reports. It's a very strange rumor, so we'll see what comes out of it. I agree with RK though, if they were to release bundle, they would do it on the DS Lite, not DSi. If it had a slot for GBA games, then it wouldn't be a DSi. I don't think they'd waste money on a special device just for that.

It's kinda fishy that COM turns up in it seeing as how Re: COM is the game that pretty much replaced the GBA version. I guess for the nostalgia? Who knows. I doubt the DSi rumor is true, however a Lite bundle as many others have said, may be quite plausible.

Either way, we have to wait a long time before any of this is confirmed or denied officially I'm sure.

I can see it being a Lite, but the DSi just doesn't have a GBA slot. That part of it makes it sketchy to me.

If only that DSi had a GBA slot, it would royally piss off everyone who had a normal DSi, especially since this probably won't go west.

Good find, but I too am sceptic.

I also think it would be more plausible to have a bundle like that in the DS lite, like everyone else.
however, we don't know for sure. they could make some moddification to the DSi in this bundle (although I doubt it.)
nothing is written in stone with non-released items.

Maybe its a free voucher that comes with the DSi to download COM from the DSi store instead of a cartridge, or maybe the game is already preloaded on the DSi.

There can be many possibilities with this rumor.

If there were a bundle it would either be just Days and the DSi, or Days/CoM and the DS Lite.
I couldn't really see them making a bundle and including CoM though. It wouldn't make much sense imo. Though, the games stories do overlap (could be part of the reason Re:CoM is coming? Who knows, well, that, and to set up the voices for the remaining members imo).

Anyways, I could possibly see some sort of bundle, but there is no way in heck that they would make a "special DSi" just for Kingdom Hearts. They got rid of the GBA slot for a reason.

Aaaand, i dont see why this would affect the release of Days either, as the DSi will be out for Japan in less than a month.
