Okay so...
The village is called Konohagakure (Konoha for short), and each leader of the village is called the 'Hokage'.
There's the first, second, third, and fourth Hokage. Usually the title of Hokage gets passed on when one dies, or just when that Hokage doesn't feel like he should have the job anymore.
Anyway. The village got attacked by a nine tailed fox monster/beast thing a long time ago. There was a big war, they were all trying to fight it. The hokage at the time, the Fourth, sealed the monster inside Naruto. The Fourth had to die to do that... but the Third Hokage was still alive, so he became the leader again.
Anyway.
So yeah. Most of the kids Naruto's age don't actually know about the nine tailed fox--it's the adults that do. But they shun him because of it. The kids Naruto's age, well...Naruto's one of the class-clown type kids. He's also not very good at school, at all. XD. So they make fun of him and stuff.

It's cuz the nine tailed fox was a huge beast that attacked the village and so many people died trying to save it. Then the beast was sealed inside an orphan baby (Naruto) by the 4th Hokage who died in the process and everyone hayes him cuz they see him as a demon or something cuz of that, but in truth he's not like that at all. For me I recommend you watch all of it, you'll see a lot of awesome characters along the way, some of them are funny too XD

ALSO. When you watch, be sure to listen to the openings and endings. They are amaazzinggg. I love them. XDD.
Especially the openings.
They usually fit in with the series and stuff, so it's good to listen <3. *is listening to stuff from Naruto atm >w>*
