Just want to ask a question: What is it about Roxas that makes him such a good character?

To be honest, what attracts me to Roxas is the difference between him and all of the usual characters. I find some people like the nice, sweet, goody-two shoes who will sacrifice themselves for the greater good and all (the typical ideal of a hero, the predictable ones who you'll guess their choice long before it happens), while I love the flawed ones the most because it's more grounded in reality (and their decisions can separate either path). People are selfish. People are angry. And people do have faults. And the kid's more or less one embodiment of it. I like that he's short-tempered, I like that he's aggressive, I like that he doesn't take other's people's shit, I like that he can be a jerk sometimes, I like that he can mouth off and say what's on his mind, I like that he can really be mean if he tries, I like that he can be blind, and ignoring the murder of Days, I liked that he didn't just wait for things to happen while he does nothing. At the same time, I like that he can be kind, I like that he can enjoy himself, I like that he can be calm, I like when he's insightful sometimes, I like that he, in all honesty, is a good boy all around who's rough around the edges when things aren't under his control and life throws a curveballl at him every time to screw him. When he's your friend, he's your friend, unless you're shady. There's just a lot of layers. And it makes sense that he's the opposite of Sora. In the same manner that Roxas expresses what he truly feels, while Sora locks it in. Personally, he got the answers he wanted at the end. Why Sora is all important and special, why he had to give up his life for him, and what it would be like from now on giving up his independent existence. He's happy and accepted all of it, but I'm certain there will always be this longing, this wistfulness, for things to return the way they were - his own life, his own friends, etc. (I think this is his problem, and therefore, his torment)

In other words, audiences can relate to him.

Not many would like the negative aspects of his personality, but that's what makes him interesting. I don't know...he's just compelling like that.

He's also badass and I find him hotter than Sora. I had to add something shallow to this, sorry, lol. We all have that.

I was curious to see what your answer would be TN. :)

This, as I'm sure as you can imagine, a very different view than the one I've ever had of Roxas, though I suppose I can see what you mean by all of this.

However, I recall a post somewhere here on the forums (I think either Solar or Zulkir made it) of saying that Roxas is what Sora would be like on a really, really bad day. And recalling CoM, I can see the resemblance, though I wonder how much of an influence Ven's heart had on Sora's Body and Soul in Roxas' personality.

In order to clarify, one could say that Roxas is almost something akin to Sora's Id?

Maybe, after all, roxas is sora's nobody

and Like TN said, I just love how roxas is a more real character than sora. I know sora had sad moment and he expressed them, but it was during one minute and then he smiled again. People aren't always optimistic. People get angry, get sad and they need to express it. Roxas fights for his ideals and for what he think its right. Sora more or less do what he is told (and here a personal note: I have always been like that, I have always locked inside my feeling for others people happiness, and believe me, it SUCKS, so that is why I admire so much roxas, because he shows his feelings and worries)

on the other hand, Ventus its like the middle part between sora and roxas. But I still prefer roxas over him. Ventus seem like he depend on his friends, while roxas don't (he left the org and axel behind)

AND roxas is such a badass hottie <3

I've spent the past day reflecting... and I've come to the decision that I don't hate Roxas anymore. C:

The whole point and portrayal of the character (in KH2 and Coded at least) finally clicked in my noggin. So in all humility, I request joinage. :3~

Roxas was more style than sora >:C his hair is better as well as his clothe and he is more badass >:3

Even so i still feel Roxas and Sora each is cute in their own way so i can't really decide who is cuter :|

Okay, okay.

I've been a pretty vocal Roxas hater in the past, but I think I'm willing to give the guy another chance.

Just want to ask a question: What is it about Roxas that makes him such a good character?

TN has pretty said much about the reason why i like Roxas.

Just want to ask a question: What is it about Roxas that makes him such a good character?

WELL, let me start off by saying he's different from other KH protagonists; he's first introduced as a normal kid, with a flawed personality, who turns out to not be normal. I guess you could say he's intriguing...

^^Uh, yeah. As I scrolled down I found TN took the words right out of my mouth.

I am curious to know the conclusion you came to. o3o

EDIT: WAITWAITWAIT I HAVE MORE.

Roxas was the first character whose gradual downhill slide we got to see. I feel Sora was hiding his angst all throughout KH1, and when it finally came to the surface he recovered his drive and forgot the angst quite quickly. With Riku we got a few short scenes of his jumping off the slippery slope before he turned into a full blown villian; shortly after that, he regretted this choice and began the long, slippery climb back up Sanity Hill (starting now, that's what I'm calling it), which is most of what we saw. Roxas was pushed down the hill against his own will and stayed at the very bottom for most of KH2.

Roxas began as a sort of interesting flipside to Sora. The two have the same devotion to their friends, and the same occasional moments where apparantly their brains switch off for no reason in particular. Roxas, however, was raised in a different enviroment; one where everyone who wasn't his friend or manipulating him was completely indifferent to him. Sora, in contrast grew up surrounded by his friends on Destiny Islands, which always struck me as a very warm, tightly knit community.

So, perhaps since Roxas was brought up like that, he became almost as indifferent towards people outside his inner circle as most of the Organization was to him; all that, wrapped up in a child-like innocence, since that's essentially what he is. He knows nothing outside the world he was born into, and changes to the status quo freak him out.

The entire plot of Days was like a taking a wrecking ball to the status quo of Roxas's life. I've heard complaints of Roxas being OOC in Days; I disagree. That's like saying Sasuke Uchiha was OOC in the flashbacks before his entire family was killed. Both characters changed after their respective Break The Cutie moments. Roxas in particular became a much darker person after learning of the forces manipulating him; he was confused, he didn't know who to turn to or who to trust, and most of all he just wanted to go back to the way things were.

People say 358/2 Days was a Trauma Conga Line for Xion; but are we just going to leave Roxas out of the equation, when he was not only effected by the events conspiring around him but also barely had a chance to recover from them? He hadn't even come to terms with Xion's "death" when he was forced back into Sora. And to cap it off, Axel also dies protecting him.

In short, I think Roxas is a good character beca- wait, no, that's not the point of this; I like Roxas because I apparantly like breaking characters psychologically. It's why I'm taking an opprutunity to delve into the angst he hasn't yet gotten over in a fic I'm working on. And inflicting even more angst in the process.

Well, I've starting to see what *TN* was saying in Roxas, and what I had always hated about him turned into positives in my mind. I mean, those still ARE negative traits; but as TN said, that's what makes Roxas stand out from the rest of the KH cast and makes him (ironically enough) the most human of all the cast.

And I also looked into how I often envision an older Sora in my various planned-but-never-written-stories; he's very similar to Roxas in that sort of way; angry/angsty (and considering what all I've put Sora & Co. through in my noggin, who could blame him), gets a tad bit more selfish from time to time but still generally a good person. And realizing that echoed the aforementioned post I had read awhile back of "Roxas = Sora on a really, really bad day" (because literally, I put Sora through some BAD stuff in my various stories for him. o.o), and it all clicked for me. C:

I dunno. Roxas' decline is certainly the most memorable, but I've always felt that I could sense Sora's angst in KH1, albeit it being shown very subtly, and as you said we also saw Riku's decline back in KH1, which of course was prior to Roxas' decline in KH2 and 358/2 Days. That being said, I think Roxas' decline was certainly the best handled in a single game (Riku's development might be a bit superior overall if only due to his progression shown in KH1, CoM/Days and KH2).

He knows nothing outside the world he was born into, and changes to the status quo freak him out.

I don't deny that the different settings of what was "home" to Sora and Roxas definitely effected their attitudes, but Roxas was always a bit darker a character, despite where he was and what he considered to be "home" (Digital TT). Again, Roxas is what Sora would be like on a really notably BAD day.

I could see what you mean, but I do agree with the claims of Roxas being OOC in Days. Regardless of whether or not one is a fan of Xion, her addition into Roxas' backstory completely retconned why Roxas chose to leave the Organization and why he and Riku fought at the end of Days. According to KH2, Roxas left to discover who this "Sora" guy was that was in his thoughts and Riku fought him to help Sora wake up. With Xion now present in the plot, it all changed that Roxas left because of her and he went back to TWTNW just to do what Xion told him to do as her last request and Riku is mentally ordered by Xion to "stop Roxas" (bipolar much?).

what does OOC mean :C ?

and yes, I never understood why xion told roxas to destroy kingdom heart and stop xemnas, while she told riku to stop roxas >___>
maybe nomura was just trying to give roxas a reason to come back to TWTNW and to riku to fight him by adding Xion to the story

nad guess what guys :D I'm finally starting doing my roxas cosplay *3*! I already have the wig *---*

OOC = Out of Character
Meaning the character does things out of it usual characteristic
Wow that nice i would love to see your Roxas cosplay.

How long must the summary be should it included everything from start to end or just the brief start?

from start to end. The thing is, one of my friends who I'll be doing the cosplay presentation hasn't played it yet, so I'm making a summary for her and we can select the most important events for our presentation

I do see that Roxas would be Sora's Id. You also have to take Roxas' environment into account, which was way different than Sora's happy happiness in DI. His traits prevent me from feeling sorry for him, because his actions and reactions make me feel like he's strong enough to handle it. But the kid has been through a lot.

Was looking for a FC to join and thought this was perfect.

Roxas is by far my favorite KH character. Why? For every reason already given here! The first time I played as duel-wielding Roxas i thought "Holy crap this is awsome! This guy is such a badass"! (I miss my 15 year old self...so youthful, so full of hope)

So yeah request joinage.

That one thing i like about Roxas that he always try to achieve what he wanted. I don't feel sorry but sad for him that despite his effort to be somebody of his own he couldn't cause he was a nobody and i agree that Roxas has been through alot of tough time can't blame him for the way he reacted in KH2.
