    Downloading anime?

    I used to watch anime when i was younger but i lost intrest over time, but i am thinking about starting to watch anime again. I live in america & my questions are is it illegal to download anime , will i get caught & will i be in trouble if i get caught? Sorry for bothering u guys, thanks.
