yeah, i almost wouldn't even bother? to be honest, it was the first thing i ever saw of evangelion and it confused the fuck out of me. but then i sought out nge and life was mostly good~ until like, episode 18.

3.0 needs to be asuka kicking ass and taking names the whole time! there are going to be so many new characters though.

i've seen them all! death & rebirth isn't too necessary since it's basically EoE chopped up and some director's cut episode scenes (if my memory is correct).
