Yeah, the KH1 manga made Kairi a bit cuter. It also made the SoKai flow a lot more naturally without them making awkward pauses in the conversation or the plot to point out that she's Sora's most important person liek lawl and all that shiz.
They also removed the raft scene and Kairi saying possessed Riku can take care of himself, replacing it with her needing Donald and Goofy to drag her away because she wanted to HELP possessed Riku.
She feels a bit more Mary Sue'd in the manga, but she IS a by far more tolerable character, imo. Mostly because she's only there when she needs to be.
