Hello everybody! We have tons of new awards for the new year that can be requested through our Awards System thanks to Antifa Lockhart! Some are limited-time awards so go claim them before they are gone forever...
So, Terranort comes from the past like most of the other seekers of darkness. The ones that came from the past did so as hearts, and a replica was waiting for each of them (Roxas explained this when talking to Xemnas). At some point these hearts have to return to their time and will forget everything that happened in the future (these are the laws of time travel in KH, as explained multiple times by Young Xehanort).
So, Terra is finally able to break from Xehanort control, and with Sora's help can regain control of his body.
Aside from the fact that his body is a replica, what happens now that Terranort can't go back to his time? Isn't this a temporal paradox?
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Terranort became an heartless (Ansem.. which technically would be the hearts of Xehanort, Terra and Eraqus) and a nobody (Xemnas.. basically just Terra's body), yet after they are defeated Xehanort gets recompleted as his old self.. just Xehanort's body and heart. What happened to Terra, both heart and body? This bit is from DDD but I never actually stopped to properly think about it.
You know they still never explained wtf happened to the lingering will after Terra returned in full? Not to mention he's just never seen again after that.
If I had to speculate, his body was reformed at some point after Ansem and Xemnas were both defeated. Doing so had quite literally the same effect on Master Xehanort (i think this was already explained in DDD towards the end) in Terra's case. You have his body + heart + MX's heart + Eraqus Heart all inside.
Blanks Points in BBS flat out says Eraqus is in Terra's heart. As far as Lingering Will goes, I don't even know how they would ever explain that and a gold star to the person who steps up and explains the caveat of the Heart|Body|Mind split in Terra's case.
As far as Terra's heart is concerned, it became the guardian. Terranort likely "cast out" Terra's heart during the experiments which as we all know, lead to ansem seeker of darkness just being, well...a heart without a body. Hence why he needed Riku to take on physical form. Ansem SoD was quite literally Xehanort's heartless and Terra's heart lost in a similar vane to Sora's undergoing the same transformation into a heartless, only he was being controlled (i would assume against his will?).
Terra is literally the rabbit hole of this entire franchise, christ.
Yeah, I think the game strongly hinted at Terranort not being a Time travler but just Terra recompleted. Why he's back to being 20 or what happened to the Lingering Will, I think will be left unanswered.
My best guesses are that upon recompletion Terra and Xehanort got split and Terra returned to how he was before he was possessed, but was still under Xehanorts control somehow. I also assume Terranort beat the Lingering Will and the Guardian reabsorbed some of his old self, explaining why suddenly the sight of Aqua and Ven being attacked by Terranort could trigger his rebellion.

I think that what we saw was still Terranort. When we first see him he has Terra's appearance but that was probably just a trick to lure Aqua and Ven and be able to strike easily, which happend in the first few iterations.
I agree that Lingering Will probably merged back into Terra during their clash and that is also why Terra was able to rebel, together with seeing his friends and hearing Ven's words. His will was still in full force after all those years and it's what he needed to break free.
It make you wonder, if Terra hasn't cast his will inside his armor, wouldn t he be able to rebel sooner as a heartless? Like during his first confrontation with Aqua and Ven at the graveyard ?
As far as the Guardian being Terra('s heartless?) all along, it kind of makes the scene in 0.2 where Aqua was captured by the Guardian's hands while Terra's standing there a little awkward. Mainly because Terra begins to overcome Terranort with his golden chains(explained to be the bonds between him and his friends), but Aqua's still held captive in his dark form's hands and even passes out for some reason.
Perhaps this is because this version of Terra was a phantom of the Lingering Will, which was separate from and had no influence over his possessed heart?
This would provide more evidence to Lingering Will having been defeated and retaken into Terranort off-screen. A) Because the Lingering Will had shown the ability to resist Xehanort's influence, which the Guardian hadn't been capable of until the fight after Lingering Will's disappearance, and B) Because the illusionary Terra in the Dark Realm being Lingering Will would mean that both instances of his Chains of Friendship being used(0.2 and Terra's final boss in BBS) were by Lingering Will, and Terranort may have taken control of that power after his defeat.
If I was writing this the easiest solution would have been for Xehanort to pull a reverse Roxas/Namine situation. Recall that when Sora became a heartless in KH1, Namine and Roxas were both born from him due to him releasing two hearts. What Nomura could have written is that when Ansem SOD and Xemnas were defeated, an inverse effect happened where Terra and Master Xehanort were both restored. (With Terra still under Xehanort's influence instead of direct possession).
As for the Guardian and Lingering Will situation. All they had to do was show the Guardian grabbing Lingering Will, Lingering Will begins to glow and that glow spreads to the Guardian and then the armor collapses to the ground. It looks like the Lingering Will failed, but when Ventus and Aqua are in trouble later on during the Terranort fight this is enough to cause the Guardian to break free of Xehanort's control and save them and this is when we learn the Lingering Will actually merged with the Guardian.
A lot of the issues with some of the plot points in the series could be solved with slight alterations, slight tweaking, and a few extra scenes
Basically Terra's heart was still under Xehanort's control when Ansem and Xemnas were defeated, so only Terra's body was recompleted. Xehanort then took Terranort's heart from the past and put it inside the body.
Technically nothing changes, it's just more clear when explained this way I guess.
