What should have happened is Riku and Isa giving their long overdue apologies to him for what they committed in cut scenes.

That's too difficult for Nomura's brain to consider though, they're all just suddenly happy playing and eating ice cream. Yay.

I think we're to assume the apilogies happened off screen or something. I would assume Riku would feel guilty for awhile amd try and make it up to Roxas somehow, as he seems the type to kind of hang on to his guilt. So maybe in their next interactions it'll be brought up?

Overall the kh characters tend to be very forgiving Kairi basically became bffs with her kidnapper, Axel, after he apologized.

There's no on-screen apologies because there's no dialogue simply because it's better to end on that orchestral Simple and Clean piece!

The only thing I would have added is Namine kicking Ansem the Wise in the balls immediately after she wakes up. Other than that, the ending's fine by me.

Just stepping in to say that I was surprised when I found out many people saw that scene between Riku and Namine as showing a romance.

I was pretty firmly watching the scene as Riku paying respects to Repliku by watching out for Namine for him. It was a scene similar to a knight escorting a princess, but the depth of emotion came from the happiness of her finally existing, as well as the knowledge that they were memorializing what Replica Riku would have wanted to do. Riku's never seemed to show that he felt much of a personal connection with Namine.

They all have more or less a Stockholm syndrome. :D

I was thinking about Gula being revealed as Ven's twin brother but that could lead their dynamic to feel like a repeat of Ven/Vanitas.

Also doesn't Ven basically already have a twin in Roxas and even Sora?

While masks are often used to hide faces fans are already familiar with, this hasn't really been the case in KH excepts for Luxu. The hoods and hidden faces usually are just covering new faces. I don't expect it to be any different this time around.

I was thinking about Gula being revealed as Ven's twin brother but that could lead their dynamic to feel like a repeat of Ven/Vanitas.

Twins would be more or less impossible as Gula is older than Ventus.
In Union Cross, Ven is about 10/11 while Gula is certainly in the 15/16 range.
It could thus be big bro and little bro, possibly a parallel to Lauriam and Strelitzia.

In the present however they would be around the same age if Gula didn't age further which is pretty unlikely.
That situation is also present with Ven and Sora.

If the dynamic would be a repeat or not would entirely hinge upon how they feel and act towards each other.
Ven/Vanitas is certainly a toxic dynamic since Vanitas just can't let go and accept that a no means no while Ven does accept Vanitas as his own entity, with encouraging that in KH III itself, but doesn't exactly want to associate with him.

For Gula and Ven the dynamic could be different on the basic premise alone already as while Vanitas actively and aggressively stalks and bothers Ven, Gula is known to be a loner who doesn't put too much value into social interaction so he would probably give Ven much more space and while he might love his lil bro, he won't show it openly that much and it'll fall to Ven to be the active force and coerce Gula out of his introverted bubble.

Also doesn't Ven basically already have a twin in Roxas and even Sora?

Yea, with Roxas being around now this can become a dynamic down the line with Ven even if they are not actual twins in a biological sense.
Roxas is his own being but parts of him were influenced and/or shaped by both Sora and Ven, so they could be counted as triplets.

It isn't even that way with Luxu.
We don't know Luxu's actual face because Xigbar/Braig is just his latest vessel.

Even if Riku apologized to Roxas, my favorite headcanon is Roxas being forever salty towards Riku so I hope there's still snark between them in a less serious way. Mostly from Roxas.

I don't think Gula and Ven are related. If they are, surely Ven doesn't know right? He basically implied he had no friends prior to the war. He didn't stand out. He doesn't even understand why he was chosen as a leader. But I think if his big brother died in the big war, he'd have said something by now.

If they're related, I think they're distantly related. Like how I think Eraqus is distantly related to Brain probably. Terra distantly related to Aced. Aqua distantly related to Invi. That's what I think this reincarnation theory we've had for years is going to turn into with this whole "blueblood" idea Xehanort dropped in the secret reports.

I expect a little rivalry between them, like the one he has with Sora.

They definitely could, I don't think anyone would bat an eye if they introduced themselves as brothers. I guess Kairi, Naminé and Xion could also pass each other off as sisters, to keep things simple moving forward. I actually like how Van called both Ventus and Sora his brothers.
Family bonds have been something KH has been avoiding more or less until recently. Barely acknowledging the fact that the characters might have parents.

Right we still don't really know what Luxu's real face is, so that example is also only half true.

Haha I'd be down for that dynamic between Roxas and Riku. Both characters are good with snark so I'd see them play well off each other, especially if it's more playful in nature. Roxas could just tease Riku about wearing a blind fold or something.

Maybe, but Sora never mentions his parents and Goofy never mentioned max, but I still wouldn't rule out their existence. KH never really leaned into family bonds before I think Lauriam and Strelitzia are actually our first Original characters that are related to each other by blood so this is new territory for us.

That would be interesting, would also make blood bonds and family relations more important for the next arc, meaning we might finally see Sora, Riku and Kairi's parents (most likely not).
Aqua and Terra being the last blueblooded Keyblade weilders would make sense, none of the other trios really have candidates for such roles. With as little as we know of their time before Ven, this could be a good plotline for them.

I'm not sure about Sora and Riku's families but I could see Kairi's family get focus. Especially if her grandmother was someone tied to the chi era as people theorized.

Right with Kairi we'd also have her biological family, which given that KHX started out with Kairi's grandma telling her a story ties her into the new saga, potentially.

I do think the series is about to start caring about family bonds. Vanitas laid on that he thinks Ven and Sora are his brothers really thick. Ven and Sora didn't even deny him that, they just wanted him to stop being an asshole.

Then the whole Laurium and Strelitzia thing. And Xehanort saying that Eraqus is descended from the original leaders.

I thinkkkk it's coming. And I don't mind. I live off of family feels.

Yeah, I like a good family bond story. I'm especially a sucker for brother-sister dynamics, so I'm rather interested in seeing Laurium and Sterlitzia's story play out.

It'll also be cool to learn if Aqua, Terra and Kairi are tied to the KHUX period through bloodlines or not.

Yes, he'll finally eat her warm meal. Then face the most hard fought boss fight trying not to get grounded for life after basically killing himself.

I hate stories about family myself. There's so many of them and I found KH refreshing in how it pretty much exclusively focused on bonds made by choice and the strength in that, so I'm not too thrilled with this new direction. I'm hoping it's largely left to L&S.

I want the wayfinder trio to adopt Namine and have her come live with them. And get a new dress for goodness sakes, because she eventually ought to be seen in something besides that same white dress! Does she just have the one dress? What does she do when it's laundry day, hide naked until it's finished drying?

he got one from eraqus.
Ew, old man boobs. XD

I want a scene where Roxas makes a lighthearted jab at Riku for what he did, but Riku still feels bad about it so takes it seriously and gets really bummed. Roxas tries to apologise and explain but it's just awkward.

Just wait for it to turn out Luxu is Sora's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-

-3 hours later-

great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather.

Joking aside, it could be a nice change of pace if the story puts some focus on the bonds one's born with.

Is that why Riku wore the blindfold?

I asked Nomura, his answer was thus:
Namine doesn't actually wear that dress, she just manipulates everybody's memories to make them think that's what they saw, but in fact she's naked all the time. Scandalous, I know.

Speaking of which I should've asked Nomura where Nobodies get their clothes. The Org coats make sense but like Roxas is shown waking up in Twilight Town dressed in a full set from the latest H&M catalogue and it's like...uh? Was Sora's body just too embarrassed for itself?
