I just finished the game last night and have some questions about how Xion is utilized in this game. Note that I have only watched the cutscene movie of Days, which may be why I'm confused.
Spoiler ShowHow does everyone suddenly, intimately remember who Xion is? I'll be honest, I didn't really buy the emotion when she reunites with Axel and Roxas because . . . well, a lot of reasons actually.
- Didn't Xion only continue to exist in the recesses of Sora's heart? How did the Organization go about making a replica of Xion, if so? And why would they make a replica of Xion?
- Why were Axel and Roxas so nonchalant about her return? Like, it just seemed so weird to jump from having no memory of this person to joining together in an embrace as if nothing had happened. Roxas seemed especially unsurprised by Xion's return, and the only explanation I can think of is that Roxas came to remember Xion's existence while being inside Sora's heart himself, but that's all speculative. At least with Axel there's that Kairi/Xion moment early on and that "who are you?" moment just before her reveal. I dunno; they seemed to be reaching for an emotional payoff in this scene that is not sufficiently supported by what comes beforehand.
- This is less a question and more of an opinion following these points but, I think this reunion would have been so much richer if it had room to breathe. Xion doesn't even show up until this moment, and there's really no buildup to it. As many have suggested, a lot of the resolutions of the endgame needed more time and development rather than being shoved into a hyper-busy finale.
It's weird that I even care about this because I never played Days and don't have a particular affinity for Xion. I guess I just really wanted these trio resolutions to hit a lot harder than they did.
I will say though: Xion's new outfit in the credits is amazing. Loved Axel's, too.
