Yes well, basically all his art is digital. But the technique he uses to make them look the way they do, is to use lots of textures, and paint with custom brushes. Aand some filters.

I agree on the ending cards, I absolutely love them. And the song, one of my favorites ever. Together with Ishida's art it's just perfection.

Did he really draw all that?! It's pretty sick! I didn't know he did paintings or drawings from other characters from different manga. Is there like a certain technique he uses that make his paintings come out that way?

He actually does that a lot, drawing characters from other manga. I mean he did the side story/origin story of Hisoka from HxH and he likes shoujo manga, he drew fanart of the Ore Monogatari characters and this manga called Honey I believe? Aside from working on his own manga he worked on the card deck too, the calendar .. redrew the beginning of TG and somehow finds time to stream and play video games LOL

Our boy is making progress, it seemed to be a bit easier to leave things to his buddies than last time. At least there was less protesting. I'm glad they've clearly had enough of Kaneki's indecisiveness and trying to save everything and everybody and are keeping him in check. You go Ayato, though I'd love to see more Touka too. She could really use some development, I want to see her learn to talk, to tell Kaneki how she feels isntead of just slamming his head on a desk.

Also, I was re-reading some of the chapters, and something I didn't catch last time was in that chapter where one of the lab members presses the alarm. She said something like "everybody's hopes are on me now", which is pretty interesting. I wonder if it has something to do with the reason why Amon is the way he is now? Why would a human feel that experiments with apparently creating full ghouls from humans is somehow a vital thing for humans? Are they planning to use them as weapons against ghouls, or is this some weird V shenanigans again? Also, I think Amon looked quite similar to Urie after breaking his frames, so perhaps what was done to him is similar to the Q thing. It didn't look like just a regular kakuja or anything. Hmmm.

That is a mystery at the moment. I guess it has something to with the children in those tubes that were labeled as "Rize". The V members discuss that this project is somehow connected to "peace" and so Ken`s group is a danger to that peace. So at the moment I am gonna say that this is some V related stuff.

Amon`s kakuja mask sure reminded me too about how Urie looked, and I think it also did reminded me Yoshimura`s and Eto`s masks. I think it makes sense since Amon has Yoshimura`s kakuhou, but then again so did Seidou and his mask looked very different.

Some small news about the upcoming live-action movie. There was a preview of a longer interview from Kubota Masataka, Kaneki`s actor in a magazine. Another picture of Kubota as Ken: Kubota Masataka | 窪田正孝 in CUT 2017年3月号 ... - Save the data I am liking a lot of how they made Kubota look. During the first chapters and volumes, Ken is really pale and he has this sick/not doing well kinda of feeling surrounding him. Those small photos give me the same impression.

^Yeah, he really looks perfect for the role. I love those pics anyway, really good shots, the lighting is so good and the mood is somehow very similar to Ishida's artwork. Impressive.

^ Yeah, I can imagine pale Kubota in Kaneki`s small and dark apartment coming to the realization that he can`t eat human food anymore, and starting to compare his situation to Kafka`s Metamorphosis.

A few months ago they also showed a few photos that are very likely from the book signing session that Kaneki never went to in the beginning. I hope it means that Takatsuki might make a small cameo in the movie, that would be awesome.

Well that sure was disturbing...... I mean I know it's Uta and I don't like him at all, but Mutsuki sees him as Haise, and doing all that f'd up stuff just bothers me a lot because Haise is my absolute favorite, precious poor kid who was doing his best, trying to take care of his squad and be the father/big brother figure they all needed. Just... you don't do that to Haise okay that's not okay in any form or shape. Obviously all that, in on itself, is messed up enough and horrible but it just bothers me personally even more because it's "Haise". I'm also kind of sad that Mutsuki is waaay beyond redemption because I liked her (him? I don't even know anymore) in the beginning. I wonder what's going to happen to her in the future, but especially after this reveal I feel that she probably will face Kaneki at some point. Also I'm a bit worried about that Q kid who found Mutsuki, I hope he doesn't get rekt because it seems based on all the previous fights that Mutsuki is actually pretty strong.

I also also hope Kurona and Takizawa will be alright. I like them, but I also don't want Kaneki to have to regret leaving them there to fight, we've already had enough of his dilemma with that for a while and there are more important plot points that I hope we'll get to.

I suppose it's Takizawa's kakuja... the transition is a bit weird but that's what it seems to be. Too bad it doesn't look as cool as his old mask.

Ooooh boy the fandom is in a mess because of this chapter. It usually is after anything related to Tooru comes up ... Most of the time I am looking forward to the discussion that usually start to pop after a new chapter, but now I am more afraid than excited.

Yeeah I've already seen quite a lot of controversy over this chapter, some people seem to be very upset about this and are even dropping the manga. I kind of get where some of them are coming from but I also think there's so much overreacting happening, as always. I just hope people remember to stay constructive instead of going full attack mode and sending death threats and whatnot that has been happening before. Please have chill. Criticism is allowed and I think it's overall fine to question artists and the limits of artistic freedom if you have a problem with something, but some people just go waaay overboard immediately and it's sad that artists have to deal with it. In the end it's still his work.

@catcake Yeah I knew it was his Kakuja, it just looks...really weird, like what's with the head?
@hemmoheikkinen Meh, this is what kinda makes Tokyo Ghoul Tokyo Ghoul. It's a bunch of really gritty and hard to look at shit.

Agreed.

For some reason I find it hilarious how many this chapter managed to piss of. Folks who ship Tooru x Urie are on the barricades because they think their ship has now been shot down. Some trans folks seem to be angry too, and Uta fans are pissed because they think Uta is dead. Looking at the discussions is like taking a peek into Pandora`s Box. Fandoms sure are a great thing....

I am having a strong feeling that Uta is not dead. When Hirako sliced his head in half during the Auction Raid he was able to recover from it pretty fast. Also, I think there is a reason why Ishida showed that while fighting against Juuzou, Uta could easily avoid his attacks or disarm if he just wanted to.


I think it hilarious how messed up this all must look from the eyes of Aura`s nephew who came to see Mutsuki. Not only he saw the person who earlier have him advice and encouraged him now to do things with a mutilated copse, the corpse happens to be the person who sent his aunt to the hospital in the first place. Like, oh my god that is messed up.

Ahhh the joys of being a casual TG fan and not being completely oblivious to fandumb discourse.

While I'm in no way surprised that trans advocates in the fandom are going off, I'll just repeat what I said to a friend yesterday:

just speaking as a person who's watched an actual trans person up close and personal... Tooru is definitely not all that. She doesn't seem to have that *desire* to actually be more physically masculine for the sake of it. She mostly wants to avoid "male gaze" and other things that remind her of her really horrible childhood... for obvious reasons. This isn't a gender ID issue, it's a matter of really, REALLY nasty repressed memories that have EVERYTHING to do with Tooru being homicidally insane and unstable.

I am way too far in the deep end to be a casual fan of TG anymore. But ehh, in the end this storm will eventually calm down like the rest before it.
