I'm probably posting this way too early, but I expect that it will take some time to get a response. I'm hoping to form a small team to develop a top-down j-rpg. I finished writing the story, and now I'm compiling a script for not only cut-scenes, but all in-game dialogue, item descriptions, objects with messages, etc.
It's gonna be a while before I'm ready to start coding, but I need some serious help with the art. I'm okay with characters, but not great. I completely suck at everything else. I'm gonna make very basic sprites to use as placeholder assets when building the first prototype of the game, but I'm really going for something with a bit more polish when all is said and done. The same goes for the music. I have a rudimentary understanding of music theory at best. I would like to think that I can at least generate some basic sound effects with Open MPT, but what's an RPG without a killer soundtrack?
The style I'm going for would be sort of a hybrid between classical 8-bit and 16-bit styles in the sense that characters and objects would have small sprites, but with more colors and shading than what you'd see on the NES or the GBC.
I don't have a real budget for this, but I'm hoping to arrange a profit split if we're able to publish it on Steam or wherever else. (It's not exactly bad to have experience like this on a resume either.) I'm also contemplating running a kickstarter but I need to have something physical to show for it before I can do that. If anyone's interested, send me a PM.
