A "third iteration" vaguely means Kingdom Hearts III.

Yeah, you've got a point there.EDIT: Also, since someone above me mentioned Legends 3 (oh gosh so excited about that), do note that there are MAJOR differences between a title like Legends 3 and Kingdom Hearts that make them darn near impossible to compare. Megaman Legends was an ultra-niche title with a limited market that would NEVER come out on an advanced console because it is just too expensive to make games on them to take chances with smaller titles.... sad, but true. Kingdom Hearts is a megaselling million-dollar franchise, it can afford to take it's time and get work done on a major release console.
What he said actually kind of implied the opposite...Well, from what I can tell of this, what he means is that this is another 'iteration', that is a repetition, meaning yet ANOTHER rethreading of earlier games.

The way he talked about it made it sound more like it was closely related with KHIII. "Next iteration" being KH3. he made a few references to the fact that there was the "3" in the title and all of that as well. Not to mention we know it takes place after Re:Coded, will have new worlds and will feature both Riku and Sora as playable characters.... It doesn't really sound like it would simply be a rehash to me.Really? I dunno, iteration means repetition and I think I read a previous article about 3D that implies we will be traversing familiar territory. Something along the lines of him saying "You will ask yourself 'Did this really happen during that time', and I hope you will be surprised by the answer", which to me implies that we'll be playing... maybe not something that actually takes place during an already seen timeline, but something that will look very similar.
Can...someone clarify for me what he meant by "You'll grow with the characters...but not Sora or someone you're familiar with"
or sommat

Besides, Nomura has pretty much stated, in his usual vague way, that the next REAL game, the one that will truly continue the story of 2, will be for a major platform. So yeah, I don't think this will be the continuation of 2- it's just another game expanding the world and mythos.
Sora's already confirmed to be one of the playable characters. I think he just means that we will see some growth in Riku's character.Very interesting. So does that mean the game is not about Sora?
What he said was "But it's not Sora whom you are familiar with this time."he said not Sora and not anyone we're familar with
Or another data Sora...What he said was "But it's not Sora whom you are familiar with this time."
Meaning he could've easily been referring to Riku.

Except, the thing is, we already know that Sora and Riku are the two main playable characters, and that the themes are deeply rooted in them and the game (which is basically what he was referring to when he was talking about that). If t isn't Sora that we will see the development in, then it makes logical sense to assume that it's really Riku.It doesn't necessarily mean Riku either, though, and he's already said before that it's not any of the data characters. With how much we see characters that share resemblances, I wouldn't be surprised if it was someone who looks like Sora but isn't him. But I don't think we can really imagine the possibilities when there is so little information about this game. And I think Nomura takes joy in giving us only little snippits of the story and laughs at how far off our theories are.
