I never really bothered to research,but I thought what birth by sleep meant was Master Xehanort being reborn again losing his memories in the process by sleeping(or something like that)
and
I think most of us know by now know that the deal with riku being apprentice to ansem pod is reminiscent to Master Xehanort and his unknown apprentice. It's just how TAV defeated xehanort and what became of them.
