XIII Battles

Axel I:
Image Weapon: Two Charkams
Element: Fire
Advantages: One-on-One
Location: Twilight Town/The Sandlot

Requirements For Battle: First, you have to reach Day 4 of Twilight Town during play as Roxas. When you reach Day 4, you have to complete the struggle events. You must beat Hayner, Vivi and 3 dusks to get to your first battle with Axel. This is a storyline battle.

Image Battle Strategy: Axel's weapon of choice are his two deadly charkams. This is a straight forward duel, unfortunately with no rewards when you win. His charkams have a long range when thrown, and usually are engulfed in flames. Axel will always throws his charkams in one single direction, so you should be able to avoid the attack with ease by jumping off to the side. He can close in fast and hit you hard when he wants to. When Axel does close in on you, he unleashes a flurry of attacks and can do some pretty bad damage to Roxas. Best to avoid that move all together. He usually shouts out "Don't make me mad!" as a kind way of telling you that he's going to cut you a new one.

Rewards: None.

Axel II:
Image Weapon: Two Charkams
Element: Fire
Advantages: One-on-One
Location: Twilight Town/Mansion: Basement Hall

Requirements For Battle: You have to reach Day 6 of Twilight Town. You'll have to head out to the Mansion from The Usual Spot. Required battles in Day 6 are very few, but you will run into plenty of nobodies along the way. When you eventually do get to the basement, you have to face 4 Dusks and 2 Assassins. You face Axel directly after the battle. This is a storyline battle.

Image Battle Strategy: Axel up'd his attacks and tricks this time around. However, he shouldn't be to much of a bother since you can now wield two keyblades. He starts off the battle attacking, and turns the floor into burning coals. The coals will slowly lower you're health. You can get rid of the coals by using a reaction command on Axel when available. The command will have Roxas launch Axel into the air, and have Axel come back crashing down onto the arena after a short aerial fight. The resulting impact from Axel destroys the floor. He still has his old tricks up his sleeve, so be warned. One of his newer moves involves him hiding behind a wall of fire, leaping out to attack Roxas, then jumping back into the flames. You can still lock onto him while he's hiding. Use the reaction command when it shows and you'll knock him off of his routine.

Rewards: Roxas Health +5

Demyx I:
Image Weapon: Sitar
Element: Water
Advantages: Water Clones
Location: Olympus Coliseum/Underworld Caverns: Atrium

Requirements For Battle: Travel to the Olympus Coliseum and complete the given story events. After a bit of progress you'll learn that the Olympus Stone has been stolen. The wierd thing is that it has been done by a mysterious man in black. You then travel into the depths of the underworld until you run into the man in the coat. He reveals that he is Demyx of Organization XIII and then you are forced into a battle. This is a storyline battle.

Image Battle Strategy: This actually isn't a battle with Demyx. You're going to be more focused on destroying the water clones he make of himself. The game gives you a set number of clones that you must defeat to not get a game over. The clones have low health, but can take a while to get a hold of. There is a reaction command that lets you grab a clone and swing it wildly. The command is called 'Wild Dance'. This is the most useful way to rid yourself of the clones, so use this option whenever you get it.

Rewards: Sora and Goofy Health +5, Donald learns MP Rage.

Demyx II:
Image Weapon: Sitar
Element: Water
Advantages: Water Clones
Location: Hollow Bastion/Castle Gate

Requirements For Battle: You'll have to travel to Hollow Bastion, enter Space Paranoids and complete the objectives there. Once you re-enter Hollow Bastion you'll get some shocking revelations. An explosion will be heard from outside the castle, so the gang must travel back. Once you reach outside you'll face some Dancer and Creeper nobodies in a forced battle. Afterwards, continue until you reach the Castle Gate. There will be a few more scenes, but once you get to your destination you face Demyx once again. This is a storyline battle.

Image Battle Strategy: The battle kicks off with you having to destroy fifty of Demyx's water clones in 40 seconds. Stick to attacking and reaction commands and you'll be fine. Remember to complete it within the time limit or it's game over. After you destroy all of the clones, you finally face Demyx. Geysers of water shoot up from behind Demyx when he dashes across the screen. He can also shoot up a circle of geysers around him to bo more damage. Randomly throughout the battle the screen will darken and you will have 10 seconds to defeat newly formed water clones. While the battle continues, the geysers will become more frequent and he'll even attack you with his sitar. There is a reaction command where Sora and Demyx take center stage. Depending on if you press the command on time, either Sora or Demyx will be booted off and take serious damage.

Rewards: Sora Armor Slot +1, Sora Blizzard Element Upgrade, Donald learns Blizzard Boost, Goofy Health +5

Xaldin:
Image Weapon: Five Lances
Element: Wind
Advantages: Berserk Mode
Location: Beast's Castle/Courtyard

Requirements For Battle: Return to Beast's Castle after the 1000 Heartless battle at Hollow Bastion. Once there, Beast is nervously waiting to have a romantic evening with Belle. There dance is cut short when Xaldin appears and you are forced to fight his Dragoon nobodies, which can be very powerful. After that, you are sent on a wild goose chase around the castle, until Xaldin kidnaps Belle. You then must run to the Courtyard and face Xaldin in a very difficult boss fight. This is a storyline battle.

Image Battle Strategy: Xaldin is a hard hitter, a really hard hitter. He attacks with devastating combos and usually chains his moves together. These moves can be avoided by constantly jumping around when Xaldin comes near you. Xaldin will also have an Aero type spell casted around him, which does damage if you get to close to him. The best way to deal damage to Xaldin is by using a reaction command. This reaction command is the ability Jump, which lets you teleport over Xaldin and come directly down on him with your keyblade. You can stock this command up to 9 times. When Xaldin takes enough damage then he dishes out some of his supreme moves. He sometimes will get a white aura around him, which makes him invincible, and hits you with horrid chain of attacks. He will also ride his lances like a dragon and shoot a beam across the entire field, dealing massive damage. The best way to avoid that is to save a jump reaction command and use it right before the beam hits you.

Rewards: Sora and Goofy Health +5, Sora Reflect Element Upgrade, Donald learns Auto-Healing, Beast Health +25

Roxas:
Image Weapon: Two Keyblades (Oathkeeper & Oblivion)
Element: Light
Advantages: Similar Moves
Location: The World That Never Was/Station of Calling

Requirements For Battle: You have to have visited Twilight Town for the third time. Once there, you have to locate Hayner, Pence and Olette who are at the Old Mansion. After going through the proper story events within the Old Mansion, you will arrive in the virutal simulated Twilight Town, and from there The World That Never Was. A little way into the newly opened world, you arrive at Memory's Skyscraper. You will then be forced into a battle with Roxas. This is probably a storyline battle.

Image Battle Strategy: Since the Roxas battle is a newly introduced battle, I can't go into much detail on the moves he uses. However, he does use a lot of Sora's drive moves, just with his own spin on them. For one, his attacks flow a lot like Valor Form. When he zips across the screen, he can leave a trail of light pillars behind him (resembling Valor Form's move where he strikes the ground and light pillars appear). Another interesting move is where Roxas goes in the middle of the arena, while the background begins to glow. A spiral of nobody symbols appear on the groune below him. Roxas then fires balls of light at Sora (those somewhat resemble the Shoot attack Sora has while in Wisdom Form). A new reaction command called Dual Bout is availible in battle. In it, Sora and Roxas slowly move in on each other ready to attack, both then suddenly strike with blinding speed. The result of the reaction command has yet to be revealed.

Rewards: Sora gains a new Keyblade. Others rewards are unknown.

Xigbar:
Image Weapon: Dual Snipers
Element: Gravity
Advantages: Teleports
Location: The World That Never Was/Hall of Empty Melodies

Requirements For Battle: After gaining access to Organization XIII's stronghold in The World That Never Was, you will have to go fight after fight against some strong nobodies. Not only that, you get some cutscenes that reveal some unanswered questions. Eventually you will reach a spot and be forced into a battle. This is a storyline battle.

Image Battle Strategy: As soon as the battle begins, Xigbar teleports to a balcony and attempts to sniper you down. Your only option is to avoid the shots until a reaction command appears and causes you to send one of those shots right back at Xigbar. Xigbar will then come down and do battle. Xigbar will teleport around the field frequently, and he will shoot multiple warp snipes at you. The warp snipes will bounce around the field for a while, so you have to do you best to avoid those and the new ones coming straight at you. When he has to reload, attack him. Xigbar can manipulate the field to have gaps, forcing you to go through a simple maze to reach him. When he takes enough damage, Xigbar turns the stage into a tiny square. A white aura appears around him, making him invincible, then he shoots a large amount of warp snipes at you. As the battle wears on, he does this more frequently.

Rewards: Sora Magnet Element Upgrade, Donald Item Slot +1, Goofy Health +5.

Luxord:
Image Weapon: Cards
Element: Time
Advantages: Sora Transforms Into Dice
Location: The World That Never Was/Havoc's Divide

Requirements For Battle: After gaining access to Organization XIII's stronghold in The World That Never Was, you will have to go fight after fight against some strong nobodies. Not only that, you get some cutscenes that reveal some unanswered questions. Eventually you will reach a graveyard for Organization XIII members, you will have to go through Luxord's station. This is a storyline battle.

Image Battle Strategy: Luxord brings a new element to the Organization XIII battles, he and Sora have bars of time at the top of the screen that slowly deplete. When either one of those time bars, or health, run out then it's game over. When the battle begins Sora is turned into a die. The only thing you can do is jump, so avoid Luxord until you transform back. Luxord's main attack is him cutting Sora with multiple cards. Luxord is a gaming man, and makes gambles in battles. One of the games is where cards with X's and O's appear around Sora, and Sora has to choose one. If he chooses an O, Luxord loses a lot of time. If he chooses X, then Sora is turned into a card (which works like when he was a die). Luxord can turn himself into a card as well, so Sora will have to waste his time flipping cards over until he locates Luxord. Once Luxord realizes he's losing, he'll liter the floor with many cards. Sora will have to find Luxord again, but now he'll jump out from nowhere and slice Sora with his cards.

Rewards: Sora Health +5.

Saïx:
Image Weapon: Claymore
Element: Moon
Advantages: Berserk Mode
Location: The World That Never Was/Addled Impasse

Requirements For Battle: After gaining access to Organization XIII's stronghold in The World That Never Was, you will have to go fight after fight against some strong nobodies. Not only that, you get some cutscenes that reveal some unanswered questions. Eventually you will reach a graveyard for Organization XIII members, you will have to go through Saïx's station. This is a storyline battle.

Image Battle Strategy: There will be a berserk gauge in the left-hand corner. When it fills up Saïx gets a major strength boost. His attacks will be all over the place. When he attacks, he'll create a blue ring on the ground that will deal damage if Sora is near it. At points in the battle, Saïx will drop copies of his sword on the ground. When Sora picks it up, he'll ride on it like a skateboard almost. This makes it very easy to avoid Saix. When a reaction command appears while riding the sword, Sora can attack Saïx with his own weapon and do fairly good damage. When Saïx is not in berserk mode he'll stay to some few simple offensive moves. Best to stay away from corners in this battle. If caught, Saïx can tear you apart.

Rewards: Sora Drive Gauge +1, Donald Health +4, Goofy Item Slot +1.

Xemnas I:
Image Weapon: Lightsabers
Element: Darkness
Advantages: Teleports
Location: The World That Never Was/Memory's Skyscraper

Requirements For Battle: After gaining access to Organization XIII's stronghold in The World That Never Was, you will have to go fight after fight against some strong nobodies. Not only that, you get some cutscenes that reveal some unanswered questions. Eventually you will reach the very top of the castle and do battle against the leader. This is a storyline battle.

Image Battle Strategy: Sora is transported to a more mystical Memory's Skyscaper for the Xemnas battle. Xemnas is a slow walker, and will teleport to reach Sora if you get to far away. At one point in battle Xemnas casts some dark magic on Sora and goes to the top of the skyscaper. The magic will slowly decrease Sora's health. Head over to the tower and activate the reaction command, which has multiple outcomes. Ignore the other reaction commands until one called 'Finish' shows up, it should be the third one to appear. That one will cause the reaction command to deal the most damage, with Sora knocking Xemnas into a wall. The second reaction command that shows up deals damage to Xemnas, but not as much as the first. The first reaction command that appears does no damage to anyone. If you fail to press anything, Xemnas does damage to you. Xemnas will attack you with his lightsabers in multiple combos if you let him get close enough. Later in the battle he will use a shield to defend himself from Sora.

Rewards: Sora MP +10

Axel III:
Image Weapon: Two Charkams
Element: Fire
Advantages: One-on-One
Location: Hollow Bastion/Mansion: Basement Hall?

Requirements For Battle: The few known requirements for this battle are to reach a secret area hidden in Hollow Bastion. It's said that you'll have to master all of your abilities to their fullest to reach this area successfully. You may also have to complete Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories to unlock this battle. This is an optional battle.

Image Battle Strategy: Axel has sixteen bars of health. The battle will take place in the same arena that you battled him as Roxas. Which means that you will gradually lose health while on the heated coals. You can expect Axel to have an arsenal of new moves or upgraded versions of his old ones. To remind you of what the old ones are: Axeling hiding behind flames, striking, then going back into hiding; flurry of attacks with his charkams; and him throwing his charkams from a distance at you. There also seems to be a revamped version of the reaction command that Roxas used against him. It seems to be mostly the same except for the fact that Sora will only be using one keyblade in his move.

Rewards: Unknown.

Larxene:
Image Weapon: Daggers
Element: Lightning
Advantages: Speed
Location: Hollow Bastion/?????

Requirements For Battle: The few known requirements for this battle are to reach a secret area hidden in Hollow Bastion. It's said that you'll have to master all of your abilities to their fullest to reach this area successfully. You may also have to complete Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories to unlock this battle. This is an optional battle.

Image Battle Strategy: Larxene is said to have only five bars of health. You may think of this as an easy battle, however Nomura says it's anything but. Her extreme speed and quick strikes make her a force to be reckon with. She seems to adapt her old Chain of Memories moves. An example would be where she paralyzes Sora with thunder, and then moves in for a powerful attack. One of her new moves involves her creating a tornado of thunder that deals some massive damage to anyone in its path. Another move involves multiple Larxenes circling Sora and moving in for the kill.

Rewards: Unknown.

Vexen:
Image Weapon: Shield
Element: Ice
Advantages: Sora Clones
Location: Hollow Bastion/The Old Mansion?

Requirements For Battle: The few known requirements for this battle are to reach a secret area hidden in Hollow Bastion. It's said that you'll have to master all of your abilities to their fullest to reach this area successfully. You may also have to complete Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories to unlock this battle. This is an optional battle.

Image Battle Strategy: The field in which you will be battling Vexen on is the Old Mansion. One of the hardest parts about this battle is Vexen's abilities to create clones of Sora. During battle there will be a data gauge that goes up to 5. Once the gauge is filled, Vexen will create a copy of Sora that you must do battle with. The copy is said to be very difficult to beat and resemble Anti Form. Vexen takes some of his old techniques from Chain of Memories, one being trapping Sora in ice. His other moves involve him using shards of ice against Sora. It's recommended for the battle that you equip strong ice resistant items.

Rewards: Unknown.

Lexaeus:
Image Weapon: Tomahawk
Element: Earth
Advantages: Unknown
Location: Hollow Bastion/?????

Requirements For Battle: The few known requirements for this battle are to reach a secret area hidden in Hollow Bastion. It's said that you'll have to master all of your abilities to their fullest to reach this area successfully. You may also have to complete Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories to unlock this battle. This is an optional battle.

Image Battle Strategy: Lexaeus strongest moves don't exactly look different from one another. In most of the moves he just raises his tomahawk and slams it down on Sora. There is a score for Sora and Lexaeus that says power. The power score is said to play out like Luxord's time battle in a way. It's unknown how the bar increases or decreases. A powerful attack Lexaeus has involves him raising large chunks of earth from the ground and hurling them at Sora. Lexaeus is said to have a forcefield.

Rewards: Unknown.

Zexion:
Image Weapon: Book
Element: Shadows
Advantages: Traps Characters In Book
Location: Hollow Bastion/Destiny Islands?

Requirements For Battle: The few known requirements for this battle are to reach a secret area hidden in Hollow Bastion. It's said that you'll have to master all of your abilities to their fullest to reach this area successfully. You may also have to complete Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories to unlock this battle. This is an optional battle.

Image Battle Strategy: For Sora to enter this battle, he has to enter into a special book. Zexion will have the ability to trap Donald and Goofy into books, leaving Sora all alone to face him. He will also encase himself in a book, and Sora will have to locate which one he is under. You can find the right one by finding the only book with a shadow, then using a reaction command to make Zexion come back out. The book seems to be able to multiply and attack Sora. The pages also seem to come out from the books and create a whirlwind to deal damage.

Rewards: Unknown.

Marluxia:
Image Weapon: Scythe
Element: Nature
Advantages: Unknown
Location: Hollow Bastion/?????

Requirements For Battle: The few known requirements for this battle are to reach a secret area hidden in Hollow Bastion. It's said that you'll have to master all of your abilities to their fullest to reach this area successfully. You may also have to complete Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories to unlock this battle. This is an optional battle.

Image Battle Strategy: Marluxia's battle is much harder than most other Organization XIII members. While in battle, a counter appears over Sora's head. With every successful hit Marluxia makes, the counter goes down. It's unknown what happens when the counter reaches zero, but the counter does seem to be able to increase in some way. A new attack Marluxia has is the ability to teleport, where he can knock Sora back and forth like a ping-pong ball. There are unique moves Marluxia does where it may be possible to use reaction commands. One is where a nobody symbol appears in front Sora and Marluxia is said to appear over his head. Another confirmed command is where Sora steals Marluxia's scythe and attacks him with it, finishing the move off by throwing it directly back at Marluxia.

Rewards: Unknown.

Xemnas II:
Image Weapon: Organization's Weapons
Element: Darkness
Advantages: Massive Stage
Location: The World That Never Was/?????

Requirements For Battle: Beat Xemnas for the first time. After which, enter through Kingdom Hearts and travel to a giant castle in the sky. Destroy the shield and beat the dragon that Xemnas controls. You'll then be put face to face with Xemnas. This is one of the final battles.

Image Battle Strategy: Xemnas has some of the defeated Organization XIII member's weapons. Including some of Demyx's water clones he uses to distract you. So you have to be ready to survive his arsonal of weapons. Xemnas has a tendacy to push you off the arena when you get to close to him. When he does push you off, he sends you to the very back of the massive arena. You then have to glide and jump back to the arena, avoiding the buildings he throws at you. But remember to use the riding shot reaction command when it shows up. If you don't then Xemnas will push you all the way back before you can even touch him. When back in battle, Xemnas will keep attempting to swing at you, do your best to avoid him. He will put up a shield in front of himself at times, but it doesn't last to long.

Rewards: None.

Xemnas III:
Image Weapon: Lightsabers
Element: Darkness
Advantages: Xemnas Clone
Location: The World That Never Was/?????

Requirements For Battle: Beat Xemnas for the first time. After which, enter through Kingdom Hearts and travel to a giant castle in the sky. Destroy the shield and beat the dragon that Xemnas controls. You'll then be put face to face with Xemnas. Defeat Xemnas for the second time and you'll be put in the final battle. This is one of the final battles.

Image Battle Strategy: The battle kicks off with Xemnas throwing Sora high into the air. Then Xemnas will teleport and deal blow after blow of attacks. The Reversal reaction command shows up a lot in this battle, make the best of it. Once you touch ground, Xemnas will continue to be on the offensive. When he attacks, he'll sometimes leave a copy of himself behind. You're going to have to lock on to Xemnas to keep track of which one is the real one. The phony has low health. Xemnas will also resort to using lasers often too. He'll usually circle and leave a trail of lasers behind him. They should be easy to avoid by jumping away. Xemnas will leave lasers anywhere he pleases, so be prepared to be on the move a lot. Halfway through the battle Xemnas will capture Sora and you will be in control of Riku. Look below to see hints for that battle. This battle will continue mostly the same, with him repeating his moves mentioned earlier. When his health is low he traps Sora and Riku in an orb, where literally thousands of lasers are waiting for them. Be sure to press Triangle and X to block the lasers to protect Riku and Sora. When the lasers let up, a special fight sequence should show, paralyzing Xemnas and doing major damage. Finish him off from there.

Xemnas III (With Riku):
Image Weapon: Lightsabers
Element: Darkness
Advantages: Riku Has Low Health
Location: The World That Never Was/?????

Requirements For Battle: Get up to the point of battling Xemnas for third time, and Xemnas will capture Sora some point in the battle. You then get control of Riku.

Image Battle Strategy: Halfway through the battle Xemnas will capture Sora and you will be in control of Riku. This battle mainly consist of you trying to rescue Sora, for his health is slowly being depleted. However you have to do battle with a clone of Xemnas to reach him. The clone will constantly knock you back with shields and his lightsabers any chance he gets, and Riku has much lower health than Sora does. Riku has only three moves to perform: Attack, Jump and Dark Aura. What Dark Aura does is shoot several dark balls at Xemnas. This is the best way to keep Xemnas away from you, since you can use it from a long distance. When you get close enough to Sora, use the Rescue reaction command and the battle will proceed as normal.

Rewards: Completion of Kingdom Hearts II.
