Story Modes Sora’s Story The new card battle system is worked out through every world. You prepare your deck beforehand and enter into battle. You rotate through your cards and use them to defeat the enemy. Once you run out of cards you then reload your deck by holding down the A button. the deck reload sequence takes a little longer each time you use it. Another feature for Sora to use in battle is his Dodge Roll technique from the first game. You simply accomplish this by tapping the D-Pad twice in a direction.
Sleights and combos also play a vital role in battle. By combining cards with the L + R buttons, you use those cards in that sequence. But that's not the beautiful part, all your card points get added together. Of course they can still be cancelled out by a 0 card, but do some serious damage. Another way to inflinct damage is by combining the right cards, you can perform a special move. They can range from massive combos, to strong spells, to mighty summons and powerful items. The battle system is altered slightly as well to fit Riku’s mode. You now lose the ability to customize your deck. In every floor and every world you get a new, pre-set deck. A helpful extra would be that now your deck reloads automatically when you run out of cards. Riku is slightly faster then Sora and can jump higher in the air. Not only that but Riku jumps out of the way of an attack when you tap on the D-Pad twice. Another change will be that Riku has much more limited access to map cards then Sora ever did. Perhaps a cooler feature of being Riku would be the fact that Riku can enter Dark Mode when a certain number of darks points are met in battle. Once in dark mode Riku dawns his heartless outfit from Kingdom Hearts. He is now faster, stronger, can jump higher, can now use slights and has stronger and stunning combination moves. However if Riku takes enough hits, he’ll revert back into his normal form, and you’ll have to collect dark points all over again to achieve dark form. Once you level up in battle, you now spread your allowed points to either Hit Points, Attack Points or Dark Points.
Story mode will also progress differently. When you progress through worlds, you will meet no characters and receive no friend cards. Story events in worlds are gone, and your only objective is to defeat the boss of that world. Once you do that, you just continue to progress through each level. Now only main story mode events will take place in the halls of Oblivion (Not counting Hollow Bastion and Twilight Town). You will also see some scenes from Sora's Story mode that were cut off to early, or some new ones altogether. The villians are now replaced with some newly introduced and old Organization members. This is the main story mode of the game and is available from the very beginning of the game. In this mode you follow Sora and company through the halls of Castle Oblivion. The game begins immeadiately after the events of Kingdom Hearts and progresses you to a new threat: Castle Oblivion. You start off on the very first floor of Castle Oblivion, and slowly and steadily make your way to your thirteenth floor of the eerie castle.
